It can turn you to stone by looking at you and it's breath is poison. And yes it is a rooster dragon.

Fun fact for all you Nethack players (...am I the only one? o.o): if you wear special gloves, the cockatrice can be used as an epic melee weapon. Just don't drop it....or trip.

Yeah, but it's hard to catch a cockatrice in that game. Or at least, I think I remember it being hard. PRESS K!
